Ok, I have the minimalist, artsy background; vague, nondescript descriptions; and pictures of me and my super-cool hipster friends from my liberal arts college drinking Stella and PBR and looking unamused – my MySpace page is almost complete! All I need to do now is pick a song. Well this is a tough one because all of my friends are really into music, and we all have an unspoken competitiveness as to who can put up the more obscure song. I can't keep putting up old Radiohead songs (even if they are from a bootleg concert version) because that's getting kind of old. Fucking Julian always puts up some random Portuguese crap and he thinks that he is so cool because he studied abroad there and so now he is more cultured than the rest of us. Whatever. I bet he doesn't really even like the stuff but just wants to seem so deep and worldly. Hey. Maybe I should put up something that is actually really awful, but pretend like I really like it because it like "invokes childhood fascinations through it's innovative dissonance" or some shit like that. Yeah! That's it. The more terrible and inaccessible the music, the cooler I will seem to my friends because I'm on a higher musical plane than them… and they just don't get it. Oh yeah! Ok, now what band fits this description? I know, I'll search Pitchfork… they are masters at this sort of false posturing.
